Kompassion @ Damansara Kim, PJ

Fresh off our first official foodscapade, and with time on our hands, Bravo and I went on our second foodie adventure in the space of a couple of days. After roughly an hour of research, chats on random topics, and a few of sugar biscuits later, we finally decided on Kompassion - a Thai fusion restaurant that serves pork (clearly an important factor in our decision making).

Kompassion interior.
Parking was horrendous, and after a few rounds of circling the short stretch of shophouses, we were lucky to get a parking spot. The place was packed, granted it was a Friday night and again, lucky for us we didn't have to wait for a table. Then, it was time to get down to business.

We opted for the healthier option of brown rice, which I feel is more fragrant than the standard white rice. This went really well with the dishes to follow.

Brown rice.
First up, Paku with sambal belacan. This generous serving of vegetables came topped with pork mince and cleverly camouflaged chilli padi! Delicious!!

Paku with sambal belacan.
Then, came the highlight of the night - Green Curry Barbecue Pork. At first glance, the portion seemed a tad small but boy was it more than enough. Rich and creamy, the spicy and aromatic gravy completely soaked the succulent and sweet barbecue pork. Yummylicious! Give me this and a bucket of rice anytime!

We were pretty full by the end of the mains, but how could anyone say no to dessert? We had the Coconut Gelato with Red Ruby and Jackfruit and Coconut Pandan Gelato with Cendol Corn. The gelato flavours were interestingly delicious.

Top-Bottom: Coconut Gelato with Red Ruby and Jackfruit and Coconut Pandan Gelato with Cendol Corn.
Verdict: Pricing is slightly on the high side but that green curry is just screaming for me to head back.

I'll end with another fun fact. You know those lines on the rear window of your car? Turns out they're not a design feature. Those babies are demisters to clear condensation or frost. Mindblown

The Grind Burger Bar @ Section 17, PJ

Since our last porky outing at Morganfield's, my request for my first official foodscapade partner has been accepted! An excellent candidate, Bravo loves food as much as I do, is open to various cuisines, and most importantly we share an undying love of meat - especially pork. So, it comes as no surprise our first official outing was to The Grind Burger Bar, which serves pork burgers.

The Grind Burger Bar.
The first thing we noticed as we entered was this:

Hhmm..open to interpretation here.
Bravo was completely amused. I, on the other hand, was more amused at his amusement haha.. Anyway, let's get down to the burgers.

Bravo got the JD, which as its name suggests contains secret Jack Daniel's sauce on a pork patty, with bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and onion. He says it's only alright.

The JD.
I got the Lord of the Rings, which is basically the same as the JD except it's got onion rings sandwiched in the burger, and with smokey barbecue mayo instead.

The onion rings were deliciously crisp, and went well with the sauce. Dripping with juice, the first few bites were good , but it slowly became evident that the patty was a tad soft and lacked flavour. I found myself constantly dipping it in Heinz chilli sauce to add to the taste.

The fries and the side of smokey barbecue mayo made up for the disappointment though. Somehow, Bravo wasn't impressed with the fries either. So hard to please! =P

The Lord of the Rings.
Verdict: Fatboy's is still the preferred choice - next on the burger agenda. If we don't get sidetracked by other joints that is.

Oh, I also learnt something new (somewhat) this outing. Something about fuses blowing when there's an excess of amps? And I've forgotten it already. Physics was never my strongest suit!

Sate Kajang Hj. Samuri @ Damansara Uptown

Caught up with an ex-colleague of mine earlier this week, and where better to meet up than none other than in the area of our former workplace. She'd never stepped foot in this restaurant during her tenure there which came as a surprise haha. Whereas I'd been quite a number of times before but it'd been at least a couple of years since my last visit.

Restoran Sate Kajang Hj. Samuri
Sate Kajang Hj. Samuri is famous for well, as its name suggests, satay!! I was tasked with picking the venue and suddenly craved for satay, which I hadn't had since my company's annual dinner which was abysmal apart from the satay which was motivation enough to stay apart from the lucky draw but that's a whole other story. Back to Satay!

Spoilt for choice!
They have quite a range of satays here, from chicken to rabbit. Take your pick! We decided on the traditional chicken and gave fish a try as we'd both never knew this existed. This place is self-service so you order at the counter, pay, and collect your own sauces and nasi impit to go with the satay.

Peanut Sauce, Sambal, and Nasi Impit.
Then, you sit and wait for the satay, which plated really quickly! The Chicken Satay was tender and juicy, while the Fish Satay was a pleasant surprise to us both with its freshness and juiciness. It is claimed that the fish is sourced from only the best in Norway. Not sure how true this is, either way it's good satay with the delicious combination of peanut sauce and sambal.

Next time you crave for satay and can't be bothered to go all the way to Kajang, look no further than Damansara Uptown!

Morganfield's @ eCurve, Mutiara Damansara

Finally gave Morganfield's a try while catching up with a good friend who'd recently returned from a stint in the States.

Morganfield's at eCurve.
I'd heard good things about their ribs before and had tried to give it a go previously but it seems this place is pretty popular and was booked out. Didn't want to leave anything to chance this time so ensured a reservation was made.

Hell, yes.
The mugs were piggy-inpired as well. Look at these cute designs!

Piggy mugs
Ok, down to the all important ribs. It didn't take long for us to decide on our selections and the ribs plated fairly soon after. My friend got the Hickory BBQ Spare Ribs while I opted for the Garlicky BBQ Spare Ribs.

Hickory BBQ Spare Ribs
I knew the moment I saw the portions that I wouldn't be able to finish it. They were huge as for a half slab! Value for money for sure though. Super delish and flavourful, these porky babies sure made us happy campers.

Garlicky BBQ Spare Ribs
In all its deep fried glory was the side of onion rings. These were substituted with fries, a request the staff accommodated with no fuss (rather surprising considering experiences we've had at other local restaurants). The coleslaw deserves a mention too as it's one of the better ones I've tasted out there . Oh, and I was sure I spotted some bacon bits in the mashed potatoes. Mmm, bacon.

Our efforts to finish the half slab failed, but at least we went home with some happiness in a box!

Verdict:  The ribs just weren't as succulent and fall-off-the-bone tender as I'd liked them to be but any dish with pork in it is good enough already.

Oriole Coffee + Bar @ Somerset

So, I was back in Singapore yet again. This time it was a whirlwind day trip with a good friend of mine who roped me in to watch a certain movie banned in Malaysia, which was done quite tastefully I must say. Anyway, back to the food. I'd been to Oriole before for their dessert, and was in search of brunch before the movie and the cafe was in the vicinity so why not give it a go.

Oriole Coffee and Bar
The menu was fairly simple and straightforward, with delicious selections.

The menu.
I was in the mood for Pancakes. The plate of three pieces of pancakes topped with strawberries and blueberries, with a side of their very own espresso mascarpone butter was simply divine in all its fluffiness! I'm not usually a coffee person but the combination was too delicious. The maple syrup was just the right level of sweetness as well. I couldn't eat it fast enough. My only grouch? If only they were just slightly thicker.

Pancakes with espresso mascarpone butter and maple syrup.
My friend had the Waldorf Salad, which was a mix of apples, celery, grapes, and kale topped with roasted walnuts and blue cheese dressing. According to her, it was good. She especially liked how the apple was beautifully shredded thinly. Looked almost like noodles to me!

Waldorf Salad
Would like to try their mains next time. The ribs and pies sound good if their descriptions are anything to go by.
